The Cady Mountains are a mountain range in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California.

Report (Photos (below)

I am pleased to announce my good friend, Roy I Lackey, as my new Co-Field Trip leader, Roy is a very knowledgeable Rockhound that shows true enthusiasm for our hobby. Roy and I have gotten to know each other over the last several years and has become a great friend and fellow Rockhound.,

On Saturday November 5th we held our first CFMS tri together as CFMS Guides for Southern California and meet 24 eager Rockhounds early in the Morning at the Basin road off ramp and found them all rearing and ready to go, after a brief safety meeting we where off and running. The day started with a fantastic Sunrise and plenty of smiling faces. We had an 11 car and one quad caravan into the heart of the collecting area. During our trip we made several stops during the day, our first stop was to collect Yellow plume agate and Apple green Fluorite, what as stop it was, everyone found bags of great material and then we took a brief stop so everyone could have lunch, we then moved on to another location where we collected Sagenite Agate, Angel Wing Agates and a variety of other jaspers and Agates, all in all it was an amazing day. We all went home with quality material and no body got hurt, you just can’t ask for a better day.

Roy and I will be setting up more trips in the near future so keep an eye on the CFMS web site for future trips.

Best Wishes

Adam Dean and I lead a fun filled rock hunting field trip to the North Cady Mountains. 24 People showed up for this trip. We went to the Fluorite area where people ended up finding some great material in both Apple Green and some specimens had a mix of both Green and Purple. Everyone was very pleased with the material we found there.

The second place we went to was the Yellow Plume and Sagenite area. Again, everyone ended up finding some great material.

The last stop of the day was a place we were finding some really nice mixed color jasper and seam agate with tubes and other interesting patterns.

The day ended on a great note with bags full of choice material and lots of smiles. No one got injured and everyone left a happy camper. The safety procedures we go over with all the attendees prior to going out collecting really paid off and everyone was thankful we talked about the subject prior to going out. I would say this was a very successful trip especially being my first co-lead on this trip with Adam.

Hello Adam.

I wanted to thank you for leading the Cady Mountain trip last weekend. I appreciated your knowledge of the area, your safety tips and how much attention you paid to ensuring everyone was accounted for. We enjoyed the trip very much. Hope to see you on another trip soon.

If you have a chance, can you help me confirm the specimen in the photo attached? It was from the second site we visited.

Thanks again

Thank You for your participation Kim
It was a blast and we all had a great day, the specimen in the Photo is an Aragonite Pseudomorph, nice find. Roy and I will be putting together more trips in the near future so keep an eye on the CFMS web site.

Hi Adam:

Thank you for a fun field trip on Saturday. I particularly enjoyed your enthusiastic and welcoming manner with the group. In addition, you were so well prepared with rock samples and information about where to dig.

But mostly, I appreciated that you made me feel very safe. You counted cars, reminded us about bringing water, and warned us about the possibility of snakes. That is a big responsibility, and you took good care of us.

I thought that I would share two photos with you. Attached is a photo of me rocking out. Haha! Also attached is a photo of the four best rocks which I found on Saturday. I adore the colors and patterns! (FYI, the first rock is unusual because although you may not be able to see it, it has an emerald green mineral sparkling on its surface.)

Again, thank you so much for a very enjoyable day. It was great fun, and I look forward to attending more trips with you in the future

Best regards,
Lynn Vail
