Peg Norton

In Memoriam HELEN "PEG NORTON" Dec 12, 1915 - Feb 25, 1985

Services were conducted by Father Chris at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Hollywood, on March 1, 1985 for Helen "Peg" Norton, where she had been a parishioner for 16 years.

Peg, as she was affectionately known, was born in Chicago, IL. where she attended school, graduating from Business School as a Legal Secretary, being employed by several attorneys. Peg married Jack Norton in 1940 and moved to California in 1968. Here again she was enployed by attorneys but finally opened a Secretarial business of her own.

Peg's Earth Science preference was in the mineral field, especially micromounts and fluorites. As a member of the Sierra Pelona Society she was active as secretary and later Federation Director. She was Chairman for Programs and Speakers committed in CFMS then served as Secretary for three years going on to 2nd and 1st Vice President and President. During her term of office she was on the committee which helped bring the CFMS Scholarship Fund into being. Peg was also an active member of the V.I.P. Society which hosted the CFMS show in Pasadena.

Peg also liked to sew and was noted for her kindness to animals, insisting on taking; her parakeet with her on her first field trip. She was instrumental in helping young people with their mineral collections and very supportive in their pursuit of the Earth Sciences.

Even though Peg was in poor health in the past few years, she helped Fred Sellers frequently with his many Federation jobs, and was always available and supportive.

Peg is survived by her husband Jack Norton, her brother Fred Sellers, two sisters, Virginia Sellers and June Strange, seven nephews and a niece, Like so many who have gone before us, Peg will be missed by all who knew her. Our sympathy is extended to the family.

Annelies Nash.
